Shaquana Owens Honored with USCAA Hall of Fame Induction

Villa Maria College is proud to celebrate a monumental moment in program history as former women's basketball standout Shaquana Owens '19 has been officially inducted into the USCAA Hall of Fame.

During her time as a Viking, Owens first earned USCAA Second Team All-American honors in 2015-16, then received consecutive First Team selections in 2016-17 and 2018-19. During that remarkable run, she was named the USCAA National Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Shaquana also eclipsed 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds during her career. "I will always cherish being a part of the first women's basketball team at Villa and being surrounded by such a tight-knit community. I want to give thanks to my teammates throughout my four years here, I couldn't have done any of this without them" says Shaquana. Her favorite memories with her team include watching the announcement of Nationals every year and celebrating with her teammates when Villa made it to the big stage.

Shaquana currently serves as the assistant girls basketball varsity coach at the Park School of Buffalo, where she continues to pour into the basketball community. "The girls at Park remind me so much of our squad at Villa, a small but determined group," she shared. "It's a privilege to teach them the game I love and to inspire them through my passion for it." This season, Owens and the Park School girls' basketball team captured the State Title, a testament to their hard work and her impactful leadership.

Congratulations Shaquana on an excellent career and amazing accomplishment. Once a Viking, always a Viking!
