Vikings Impress In Albany Against Bobcats

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's basketball team played in their first game of the 2022 year, traveling to Albany to take on Bryant and Stratton Albany. The Vikings dominated early and cruised to a 76-53 victory. The win pushes them to double-digit wins, 10-7, while the Bobcats fall to under .500, 7-8.
 
The game started off competitive with the Vikings taking a 13-12 lead towards the end of the first quarter. In the second game, the advantage began to balloon when Autumn Adams-Edwards hit a jump shot to put the team up ten. After the two teams traded buckets, Villa began to make another run starting with a Leah McQuiller jump shot that made the score 35-24 with 3:38 to play in the half. Danyea Barclay contributed two free-throw makes before Adams-Edwards knocked down a layup and three-pointer to go ahead 42-24. Maria Falanga hit a three in the final seconds of the first half and the Vikings went into the breakup 45-24.
 
The team went on cruise control for the second half, keeping their lead above 15 and getting it as high as 26 towards the end of the game. Barclay continues to have a strong season, scoring 24 points on 10-for-17 shotting from the field, while also grabbing ten rebounds. Falanga finished the game with 14 points, two blocks and three rebounds. McQuiller also added 14 points and grabbed five rebounds of her own. Chmicka Kennedy shot 7-for-10 from the free-throw line to tally 13 points, while also collecting eight rebounds.
 
The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday, January 26 when they play Bryant and Stratton Buffalo at 6 p.m.at The Park School.
