BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College men's basketball team traveled to The Park School to take on Bryant and Stratton-Buffalo on Tuesday. A lackluster first half put the Vikings behind by a margin they couldn't come back from and fell by a final score of 80-61. The team sees their record drop to 1-6, while the Bobcats move to 12-5.
The first half was a low scoring affair for both teams, with Villa scoring 14 total points and the Bobcats finishing with 30. Neither team shot over 38% from the field and combined, they shot 2-for-14 from beyond the arc. The second half was a much different story, with the two units scoring a combined 97 points.
The big spark for the Vikings came after the 12:57 mark when they started a 11-0 run.
Kevin Goode started it off with a three-pointer and then after a pair of free-throw makes by
Tim Payne, Good converted three straight layups, two of which were fast break opportunities. The run cut the score to 53-33. Villa trimmed the deficit to under 20 points towards the end of the game off of points by
Jaylin Rose,
Dontaye Miller and Goode, but it wasn't enough.
Goode led the team with 22 points on 7-for-14 shooting, including going 4-for-8 from three.
Master Radford and
Jeriah Williams combined for 16 points and 15 rebounds.
The Vikings will have to shake this game off quickly, because they have the second game of a back-to-back on Wednesday. They will host Bryant and Stratton-Syracuse at 5 p.m. It will be their first matchup of the season.
