BUFFALO, N.Y.—The Villa Maria College men's basketball team competed at home on Saturday as they hosted Central Penn College. Despite a strong first half, the Vikings fell behind in the second frame and lost by a final score of 98-62. Villa now hold a record of 10-15 and the Knights move to 14-4 after the win.
Jaylin Rose kicked off the game with a made three-pointer to give the team a lead.
Trayvon Holt added with a three of his own and two free-throws to put the team ahead 8-4. The Knights stormed back, but key makes by
Raymond Sims and Rose helped keep Villa in the game. At the 10:24 mark the Vikings were down by seven, but a three by Rose was followed by a layup by
Gianluca Ndukanma before
Jordan Heine hit a three of his own to put the unit ahead 25-24. The Knights moved ahead against, but a three pointer by
Jaelyn Hall and second layup by Ndukanma cut the deficit to just one-point. As the half-time horn sounded, Villa was down 46-36.
The Vikings stumbled out of the gate in the second frame, falling behind by 20 after five minutes of action. The team attempted to chip away at the deficit after makes by Holt, Rose and Heine, but it was to no avail as the team fell by a final score of 98-62. Rose led the team in scoring with 17 points. Holt added 13 points of his own to go along with six assists and four rebounds.
The men's basketball team will wrap up their season on Sunday, Feb. 16 when they host Southern State College at the Villa Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
