Vikings Fall In Final Seconds To Bobcats

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College men's basketball team competed in a hard-fought game against Bryant and Stratton-Buffalo on Tuesday. The battle went down to the final seconds of regulation and the Vikings lost on a layup with two seconds left on the clock and a final score of 84-82. Villa now holds a record of 6-10 on the season, while the Bobcats move to 13-6 on the year.

The two teams both came out firing in the opening minutes of the first half with Jordan Heine and Trayvon Holt knocking down jump shots to keep the score close. The Bobcats began to extend their advantage to as much as 12 points at the 13:43 mark, but Villa never went away. Heine converted buckets to trim the score to single digits a couple of times before Raymond Sims started to knock down shots to cut the opponent lead to just four points. The two teams began to trade points and never let the other get a run going. At the half, Villa trailed 51-44.

The second half began similarly to how the first one ended, with neither team giving an inch. Jaylin Rose hit a key three at the 16:11 mark to cut the deficit to single digits, before Holt made a layup to decrease it once again to five points. The Bobcats made another push and increased their advantage to 13 with 9:14 to play, but Villa then turned up the pressure. Sims and Rose kicked it off with back-to-back three-pointers and then Sims sunk a layup to put the team behind by five points. A few moments later, Rose continued his hot shooting from beyond the arc as he hit two more three's and put the score at 74-72. The Bobcats made another push to increase their lead, but Sims converted two free-throws and later a layup to put the team behind by two points. With 17 seconds on the clock, Heine made a fast break layup and evened the score at 82-82. Unfortunately, the comeback fell short as the Bobcats converted a layup with two seconds left to walk away with a win.

Sims recorded a double-double on 31 minutes of action off of the bench scoring 26 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Holt was impressive as well with 19 points and nine rebounds to go along with five assists. Heine was effective as the facilitator of the offense tallying 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.
