CONCORD, NH – The Villa Maria College men's basketball team competed against NHTI Concord's Community College on Saturday. The Vikings played a tough game with the Lynx and ended up dropping the contest, 83-78. Villa falls to 6-9 on the year, while NHTI move's to 12-3 on the season.
The game kicked off in a very competitive fashion with the two units going back and forth.
Jordan Heine gave the team an 11-9 lead with a layup at the 17:06 mark and Villa held that advantage for the following ten minutes of play.
Trayvon Holt and
Dorion Ivey knocked down shots during that stretch to keep the momentum on their side. During the final stretch of the first-half,
Jaylin Rose scored a pair of three-pointers to give the Vikings a lead, but the Lynx continued to fight back. As the two teams went into the halftime break, Villa was behind 38-36.
Victor Fuller came out strong in the second half as he scored a layup to give the team a 42-41 lead and later knocked down a three-pointer to extend the advantage to four. As the game continued,
Raymond Sims and
Gianluca Ndukanma contributed points to stop any potential runs and keep the team ahead. In the final seven minutes of regulation, the Lynx reclaimed and extended a lead and the Vikings were unable to complete the comeback as they fell 83-78.
Holt led the way with a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Fuller finished the day with 15 points to go along with four steals, while Sims played 31 minutes and tallied 14 points and six rebounds. Heine and Rose both finished with double digit points at 13 and 11 respectively.
The Vikings will remain on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 14 as they head to Bryant and Stratton-Buffalo for their second game against the Bobcats at 7 p.m.
