RANDOLPH CENTER, VT – The Villa Maria College men's basketball team took on Vermont Technical College on Friday as they started their string of road games. After a hard-fought battle between the two teams, Villa fell by a final score of 103-86. The Vikings now hold a record of 6-8, while the Knights now sit at 12-6 on the season.
The beginning of the game was tough for the Vikings as they fell behind 9-0 in the opening minute of the contest. The started to chip away at the deficit with a three-pointer by
Jordan Heine and then a pair of layups by
Raymond Sims brought the team to within three. The teams began to trade runs with Villa constantly getting to within four points. At the 6:56 mark, Heine knocked down another three and then
Jaelyn Hall hit one of his own to put the Vikings up 32-30. Hall and
Jaylin Rose started to extend their lead by each scoring a three-pointer. The Knights used a final run to take a 43-42 lead into halftime.
As the second half got started, the two teams began trading buckets with neither team giving in.
Victor Fuller and
Trayvon Holt made key shots that kept their deficit to under five points for the first ten minutes of the half. The Knights began to make a run in the final seven minutes of regulation pushing their advantage to double-digits. As the final horn rang, Villa had lost by a final score of 103-86.
Sims led the team in scoring with 25 points and also grabbed six rebounds. Holt had one of his best games of the season, scoring 20 points and collecting eight rebounds. Fuller and Heine contributed 12 points apiece.
The Vikings are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 11. They will play NHTI Concord's Community College at 1 p.m.
