BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College men's soccer unit battled at home against a talented Mercyhurst North East team. The final was 13-0 against the Vikings, but the team continues to learn and grow as a program.
Inside the Matchup –
Villa now holds an 0-5 mark in 2019. The Saints move to 4-3-1 after their victory.
How It Happened –
The Vikings were competitive early, taking a 1-0 deficit into the 16th minute of play. The defense showed continuity along with some strong saved by goalkeeper,
Santiago Aguirre. Villa consistently attempted to push the ball downfield and worked their way to a good opportunity in the 35th minute with a corner kick. A few second later,
Noah Tysiac rocketed a ball towards the net but it was just high of the bar.
"The journey continues as we work on our defensive posture," stated head coach
Mark Evertt.
"
Nick Tabak and
Clayton Enfield maintain a positive learning environment for the players," coach continued, "especially freshman like
Liam Kerr and
Devyn Walsh, who are solid defenders for us."
