BUFFALO, N.Y.— The Villa Maria College men and women's cross country finished the season on Saturday at the Cross Country Only Conference Championships at Seneca Lake State Park and it put an exclamation point on a fun 2019 season. 
 
On the men's side Crusade McPhail competed in three meets this season and improved his 5-kilometer time by more than a minute. Zachary Voss completes his third year with Villa and turned in some highly competitive performances as he always has. He improved his 8K (five mile) time by two minutes over the course of the season and his year was highlighted by his ninth-place finish at the Meghan's Memorial Race at Hilbert College. Voss accomplished all of this while battling a nagging leg injury that no doubt kept him from even greater success this year.
 
"Our cross-country program finished the year showing steady improvement by our participating athletes," stated head coach Robert Cathcart
 
For the Women, the Vikings entered and completed the season with three athletes, Azora Hoffman, Monica Schiltz and Bridget Schiltz. Hoffman ran Cross Country as a freshman and this year she has shown the benefits of coming to work regularly. Her best 5K time this year was three minutes faster than what she ran two years ago and her 6K time was a minute and a half faster. In addition, Hoffman accomplished all of this while maintaining a near perfect GPA over the course of this semester and her college career. 
 
Monica Schiltz has given us very steady performances throughout the year and I look forward to being a part of her progress next year. Bridget Schiltz has been our fastest female runner. She improved her 5K time by three minutes over the course of the season and her highlight was an eighth-place finish at the Meagan Memorial Race at Hilbert College.
 
"My goal is to put forth a strong recruitment effort over the course of the year to field a complete men's and women's team that will build on the success of the individual athletes that we have currently," said coach Cathcart.
