Owens, Brown Each Score 22 in Villa's 13th Straight Victory

Villa picks up 22-point win in opening round of Johnson University Tournament

KISSIMMEE, FL - Senior Shaquana Owens and junior Bianca Brown each scored 22 points as the Villa Maria Vikings picked up their 13th straight victory in the opening round of the Johnson University Basketball Invitational Classic, 91-69 over the host Suns on Thursday evening.

Owens finished with her 12th double-double of the season, securing 10 rebounds in addition to 22 points. She also dished out seven helpers as Villa led wire-to-wire in the program's first ever game in the state of Florida. Villa held a 49-37 edge at halftime and pushed the lead to 17 in the early stages of the third quarter before coasting to stay undefeated on the road this season.

Brown was 5-of-10 from beyond the arc en route a season-high. Junior forward Nina Cray had one of her best games of the season as well, scoring 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. She was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and added four rebounds. Sophomore Armoni Jordan added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

The Vikings shot 44 percent from the floor and held the Suns to 34.7 percent. The Suns held a slight edge on the glass (37-32), but the Vikings forced 21 turnovers and committed just eight, a season-low.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Vikings will continue play in Kissimmee tomorrow when they take on Pensacola Christian College at 2 p.m. They will close the tournament on Saturday with a 2 p.m. game against Grace Christian University.
