BUFFALO, NY - Yet another example of unselfishness and sharing of the basketball led to yet another win as #1 Villa Maria eased to a 90-60 victory over SUNY ESF on Saturday afternoon inside the Villa Athletic Center. It is the eighth straight win to open the season for the Vikings as they maintain their best start in program history.
Senior
Dominic Douglas led the pack of five Vikings in double-figures as he scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Fellow seniors
Kwanique Martin and
DeJaun Owens each scored 14 and 13 points respectively as well. Martin, who made his first career start as a Viking, was one rebound shy of a double-double, while Owens added three blocks.
Junior
Daniel Thompson and sophomore
Gerald Bibbs came off the bench to score 11 points apiece. Bibbs had an impactful game all around, adding seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a game-high five blocks. Thompson finished with four steals and four assists.
Villa forced 21 turnovers which led to 24 points. Junior point guard
Jabari Hibbert dished out a team-best seven assists and finished with a season-high seven steals. Villa's bench out-scored that of ESF's 43-11. Villa freshman
Kalon Kimble chipped in nine points and six rebounds in 21 minutes as well.
WHAT'S NEXT
Villa will play three games next week with it's first coming on Wednesday, December 5th when they host Bryant & Stratton Buffalo at 7 p.m. Buffalo is ranked second in the latest USCAA Division I Coaches Poll. They will then hit the road for two games in three days as they play at Penn State Greater Allegheny on Friday, December 7th at 8 p.m. and Bryant & Stratton Rochester on Sunday, December 9th at 2 p.m.
