BUFFALO, NY - In the first game of the 2017 calendar year, both the men's and women's basketball teams of Villa Maria College defeated Redeemer University College to get the year started on the right note.

The women, paced by 34 points from Armoni Jordan (Lockport, NY/South Park) and 33 points from Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) dominated the Royals, winning 100-56 to pick up their eighth win in their last nine games.

The men's team won a nail bitter, holding off the Royals late to secure a 99-94 victory and improve to 7-7 on the season.  Sophomore Dominic Douglas (Bainbridge, GA/Bainbridge) led the way with 26 points for Villa.
