Waters Scores 31 but Vikings Fall to Jamestown

Freshman scores career-high 31 points on just 13 shots.

JAMESTOWN, NY - Freshman Eric Waters (Buffalo, NY/Oracle Charter) scored 31 points on just 13 shots, but it wasnt enough to overcome the size of Jamestown Community College as the Villa Maria College Vikings fell 97-91 to the Jayhawks on Sunday afternoon.

Villa (10-9, 5-2) - who came into the game ranked 11th in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II National Coaches Poll - was able to manage the size of Jamestown and neutralize it for most of the game.

The Vikings held the Jayhawks to 47.3 percent shooting and 30.8 percent from beyond the arc but 35 trips to the free throw line proved to be the difference.  The Vikings made just 17 trips to the line despite being the aggressor for most of the contest.  Villa shot 54.4 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three.

Waters finished with a career-high in points and also added four rebounds, two assists and a block.  He was 10-of-13 from the floor and 10-of-12 at the free throw line.  Three other players hit double-figure scoring totals as freshman Gerald Bibbs (Buffalo, NY/Oracle Charter) scored 16, sophomore DeJaun Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter) scored 14 and Justin Stokes (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) finished with 10.  Stokes also added five rebounds, five assists and four steals.

The trio of senior Andre Diggs (Bronx, NY/Erie Community) and sophomores Malcolm Hendrick (Buffalo, NY/Cardoza High School) and Dominic Douglas (Bainbridge, GA/Bainbridge High School) each chipped in six points apiece.
