Women's Soccer Falls in Opener to Delhi

Owens records 29 saves for Vikings

DEPEW, NY – The Villa Maria College women's soccer team competed in its first ever game on Saturday, as the Vikings took on the SUNY Delhi Broncos.

The Vikings mustered five shots on goal while sophomore goalkeeper Shaquanna Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) stopped 29 shots, but the Vikings (0-1) fell to Delhi (3-1), 10-0 at Rehm Road Park.

"We played much better in the second half today and that's something we can build on," Vikings head coach Amanda Janosky said.  "We have a lot of girls with very little experience but I was happy with our attitude as the game progressed."

Junior midfielder Breanna Pangel (Holland, NY) had three shots for Villa while freshman Ashynn Banks (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) recorded two shots.

The Vikings stay home for their next contest on Saturday, September 17th when they host Bryant & Stratton College at 2 p.m. at Rehm Road Park.
