BUFFALO, NY - After the Villa Maria College Vikings forced a steal and scored the go-ahead basket with 18 seconds left, the fourth-ranked College of St. Joseph Fighting Saints responded with a basket of their own to steal a 75-74 victory in Buffalo on Sunday afternoon.
Villa sophomore
Justin Stokes (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) forced a steal at mid-court and finished with a layup to give the Vikings a 74-73 lead with 18 seconds left. Â The Fighting Saints came right back down the court as Antonio Gordon drove to the basket and laid the game-winning basket in.
Villa led by as many as 10 points, two different times in the second half but couldn't hold off the Saints. Â Stokes finished with 15 points, nine assists and six rebounds, to go along with three steals for Villa. Â
Donte Campbell (Buffalo, NY/Huch Tech) led the Vikings with 21 points while both
Dominic Douglas (Bainbridge, GA/Bainbridge) and
Darius Huggins (Buffalo, NY/Lackawanna) scored in double-figures, netting 13 and 12 points respectively.
Kareem Brown led all scorers with 29 points for St. Joe's. Â He also added an whopping 25 rebounds.
The Vikings are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 11 when they travel to Sanborn, NY to take on Niagara County Community College. Â Tip is slated for 7:30 p.m.
