DELHI, NY - Despite a fast start, and early 10-point lead just minutes into the game, the Villa Maria Vikings were unable to secure and hold on for a victory, falling 84-74 to the SUNY Delhi Broncos on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos shot 51.7 percent for the game and had five players in double figures as they improved to 9-5 on the season. Â The Vikings shot just 44.1 percent for the game and 40 percent at the free throw line (8-20), as they fell to 4-10 on the year. Â
Freshman
Donte Campbell (Buffalo, NY/Huch Tech) led Villa with 24 points while fellow freshman
Darius Huggins (Buffalo, NY/Lackawanna) finished with his seventh double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Â Junior
Andre Diggs (Bronx, NY/Erie Community) finished with 14 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds.
Mike Guity led Delhi with 23 points off the bench while Cesar Castro scored 20. Â
Delhi closed the half on a 24-6 run after the Vikings had established a eight-point lead with 9:55 left in the first half. Â Delhi was able to extend that lead to as many as 15 in the second half and the Vikings got as close as six, but weren't able to climb all the way back. Â
