PRESQUE ISLE - The Villa Maria Vikings and the University of Maine needed overtime to settle the score on the eve of a new year, and it was the Owls out-dueling the Vikings 74-68 on Thursday afternoon.
The Vikings led by 10 in the second half but the Owls chipped away at the lead and had two chances at the free throw line to win the game with four seconds left but couldn't convert on either. Â
Maine scored the first four points of overtime and never trailed. Â They were paced by Chase Vicaire who scored 19 points. Â Villa was led by sophomore
Justin Stokes (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) and
Darius Huggins (Buffalo, NY/Lackawanna) who each scored 15 while freshmen
Donte Campbell (Buffalo, NY/Huch Tech) and
DeJaun Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) each netted 14.
The Vikings return home for a short break and then head north of the border to take on Sheridan College on Tuesday, January 5 at 8 p.m.
