BUFFALO, NY - Despite an improved second half, the Villa Vikings dropped an 85-71 game to the Concordia University Cardinals on Saturday afternoon at the Villa Athletic Center.
After being outscored 50-32 in the first half, Villa responded, winning the second second half 39-35 with an improved defensive effort and attacking mentality on offense. Â In the loss, both
Justin Stokes (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) and Malcolm Hendrick (Buffalo, NY/Cardoza) led the Vikings with 17 points apiece.
Concordia put four players in double-figures and were led by Jerald Booker with 15 points. Â Alec Turner chipped in 14 points.
Hendrick was one rebound shy of a double-double for Villa. Â He was 9-of-11 from the free throw line and also added three blocks and three steals.
The Vikings shot nearly 76 percent from the free throw line. Â Sophomore
Jayson Moore finished with nine points and three assists. Â Freshman
Craig Page (Lewiston, NY/Lewiston-Porter) chipped in eight points and four rebounds while fellow freshmen
Jay Bergmann (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) put in seven points off the bench.
The Vikings will not hit the road for five consecutive games which begins on Saturday, November 14th against Penn State York at 5 p.m.
