BUFFALO, NY - Genesee Community College shot nearly 55 percent from the floor on Wednesday night to hand the Villa Vikings men's basketball team it's first loss of the season, 100-65 at the Villa Athletic Center.
The Cougars had four players in double figures and were paced by Tarik Allicock with 16 points. The Vikings were led by freshman
Donte Campbell (Buffalo, NY/Huch Tech) who scored 14 points off the bench.
Genesee, who was picked first in the preseason Section III NJCAA poll, out-rebounded the Vikings 54-32 and used a fast-paced offense to score 24 points in transition and 66 points in the paint. Anthony Williams added 15 points and Lamel Faison dished our nine assists off the bench.
Freshmen
DeJuan Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) and
Craig Page (Lewiston, NY/Lewison-Porter), who both made their first career start, combined for 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists for Villa. Sophomore
Justin Stokes (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) added eight points and junior
Andre Diggs (Bronx, NY/Erie Community) finished with seven points and four assists.
Villa scored a season-high 30 bench points. The Vikings will take on Concordia University (MI) on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the final of four home games before a five game trip.
