Flag Football Falls in OT in National Championship Final Four

TINTON FALLS, N.J. – The Villa Maria College women's flag football team lost its first NCFFL game of the season in overtime to the eventual national champion Siena Heights Saints, 22-14, in a semifinal playoff game on May 3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Alannah Bushorr's reception from Brianna Shalinsky gave the Vikings a 6-0 first-quarter lead.
  • The Saints answered in the second quarter with a throwing TD to tie the game at 6-6.
  • Siena Heights took a 14-6 lead with a rushing score and a two-point conversion in the third quarter.
  • Villa answered after Angelina Green caught a pass from Bushorr to get within two at 14-12 in the third.
  • Trailing by two points, the Vikings went for two on the touchdown conversion and Shalinsky found Green to tie the game, 14-14.
  • Neither team scored in the fourth quarter, taking the game to overtime.
  • On Siena Heights' first overtime possession, the Saints converted for the win with a rushing score for the 22-14 final.
  • Kiara Mercado led the defense with eight stops.
  • Promise Myers finished with a pair of sacks for the Viking defense.
  • Keiliany Diaz and Mercado both recorded interceptions.
  • It was Villa's first loss of the season in NCFFL play after going 12-0 in the regular season and 14-1 overall.
