The Vikings ended their season in style with a dominant 28-0 victory over the University of Buffalo this past Friday, April 18 at Williamsville South High School.
On the Vikings' first possession, the team took an early 8-0 lead after Brianna Shalinsky connected with Alannah Bushorr on a 16-yard touchdown pass. A Shalinsky to Lily Runkel conversion pass made the score 8-0.
After back-to-back defensive stands, the Vikings again scored when Shalinsky found Eva Torrado on an eight-yard touchdown connection. A Shalinsky to Bushorr conversion pass made the score 15-0 at halftime.
With high winds and rain in the second half, the Vikings defense took control of the game. On the opening UB drive of the second half, defensive back Deja Ferguson took an errant UB pass 31 yards back for a pick six to put Villa Maria up 21-0.
Later in the quarter Shalinsky found Keiliany Diaz on a 27-yard touchdown strike. A Shalinsky to Bushorr conversion pass made the score 28-0.
The Vikings defense was led by linebacker Gianna Marciano who led the team with eight flag pulls. Cornerback Adriana Pearsall added three flag pulls for the Vikings in the shoutout victory.
"I am very proud of this team," said head coach Keith Wing, "to come out here today and end our season like this was special." The Vikings ended their season with an 18-10 overall record (12-7 in 7 v. 7 games and 6-3 in 5 v. 5 international rules games).
