BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College men's basketball team has had a strong stretch of results, winning three straight games. The most recent victory was a home contest against University of Maine at Fort Kent, 73-60. The two previous games before that were road matchups against Bryant and Stratton Syracuse and Jamestown Community College.
After the JCC victory to stop the two-game skid, Villa hit the road to Syracuse on Friday, February 4 to play a Bryant and Stratton team that was recently ranked no. 7 in the USCAA Week 7 Coaches Poll for Division I. They rode the hot hands of
Jeriah Williams and
Rhalon Bragg who combined for 51 points. Bragg recorded a 27-point, 12-rebound double-double and added five assists. Williams collected eight rebounds to go with his 24 points. The Vikings were able to hold on late for a 79-76 victory against the Bobcats.
Bragg was once again effective on Sunday, when the team were at home against Maine Fort Kent. He scored 19 points and hit five threes. The team as a whole knocked down ten threes, matching the season high they hit on November 10 in an overtime thriller against Penn State Shenango.
Trent Cordone made three threes of his own and totaled 17 points to help the team earn a 73-60 victory.
The Vikings are getting hot at the right time as they get ready to take on Kent State University-Tuscarawas who are ranked no. 6 in the USCAA Week 7 Coaches Poll Division II. As the season begins to wind down, these ranked matchups become even more critical. The game against Kent State will be Wednesday, February 9 at 5 p.m. in Ohio.
