Vikings Fall To Golden Eagles On The Road

NEW PHILADELPHIA, OH –The Villa Maria College men's basketball team were on the road on Wednesday as they battled Kent State – Tuscarawas. The Vikings struggled and fell to the Golden Eagles, 101-62. Villa now have a record of 8-14, while Kent St. move to 14-10 on the season.

The Vikings got on the board first thanks to Jordan Heine who hit a three-pointer in the opening 30-seconds of play. Raymond Sims hit back-to-back threes of his own to help Villa remain ahead by one, but Kent State quickly got on a run. The Vikings quickly found themselves down before Trayvon Holt knocked down a shot from behind the arc to stop the bleeding. A jump shot by Gianluca Ndukanma was followed by back-to-back layups from Dorion Ivey and Heine to cut the deficit to 14. The opposition saw their lead shrink to 11 thanks to a layup by Sims, however it was short lived as Villa trailed 49-28 at halftime.

The second half was a tough one for the Vikings as the deficit ballooned 40 and they were unable to make a run to make a comeback. Sims scored 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and locked up a double-double with ten rebounds. Heine added 12 points to go along with four steals. Rose was the third Viking to score double-digits as he chipped in 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.

The Vikings will play the remainder of their season at home starting on Friday, Feb. 7. Villa will host Blue Lights College at 6:30 p.m. for the first of three straight home games to end the year.
