Vikings End Season With Thriller Against Bobcats

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College men's basketball team played in a post-season matchup against Bryant and Stratton-Buffalo on Saturday and took it all the way down to the wire. Unfortunately, they were unable to close things out and lost by a final score of 85-82. The Vikings finish the year with an 11-16 record, while the Bobcats move to 19-10 as they await the division one selection show.

The first half saw eight lead changes and the score was tied six times as both teams came out clicking on both sides of the ball. The scored started with a layup by Gianluca Ndukanma off of an assist by Jaeyn Hall. Hall later added a layup of his own before Jaylin Rose added a bucket to five the team their first lead of the game. From there, both teams began to trade makes and leads. Trayvon Holt and Jaymar Chandler converted on timely makes to give the team an advantage. Chandler was able to push the teams lead to seven at the 8:20 mark after a fast break layup. The Bobcat made a strong run at the end of the half and both teams went into halftime with a 45-45 tie.

The second frame followed a similar path to the first with Ndukanma making a layup before Rose knocked down a three-pointer. The opposition once again pushed back and tied the game at 50-50. At the 9:25 mark the Vikings went on an impressive run to give themselves some cushion and it started with a mid-range jump shot by Holt, which cut the deficit to one. Holt tied the game with another free-throw and then Rose followed with two of his own to push the team ahead. Jordan Heine then drew a foul and went to the charity strip and knocked down three more free-throws and gave the unit a 72-67 advantage. The Bobcats came back once again and they were able to hand the Vikings an 85-83 loss.

Heine and Holt each finished with 24 points. Heine added seven rebounds and six assists, while Holt recorded a double-double with ten rebounds. Rose knocked in 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
