BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's soccer team kicked off their season against Paul Smiths College on Friday, and despite a valiant effort under the sun, the Vikings dropped the first game of the year by a score of 9-0. 

Inside the Matchup – 

• The Vikings now hold a record of 0-1.
• The Bobcats pick up their first win of the season, moving to 1-0.  

How It Happened – 

• Villa fended off a variety of early attempts by the opposition, defending well against the attack and set pieces. 
• Paul Smiths' first goal came at the 12-minute mark.
• Megan Marafino gave the Vikings their best chance at a goal, ripping a shot against the Bobcats, unfortunately the opposing goalie made the save.
• The defense came together in the second half, allowing only two goals and matching up more against the visiting unit.

• Villa travel to Cazenovia College on Sunday, Sept. 1 for their first road game of the 2019 season.
