Box Score 2 PAUL SMITHS, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College men's basketball team competed in their first two games of the 2019-2020 season over the weekend and they came up with a split. The Vikings dropped game one against Bryant and Stratton – Albany 73-70, and then turned around the next day and defeated SUNY ESF 102-79.
The Vikings now sit at 1-1 on the year and they are joined by the Bobcats and Might Oaks who also move to 1-1.
Game One: Bryant and Stratton 73 – Vikings 70
The first game of the year was a battle between the two units. The Vikings had four players score in the double digits.
Derick Simpson led the way with 16 points and added four rebounds and two steals. Danny Thompson was the second highest scorer with 14 points, while totaling three rebounds and three assists.
Jeru Molson and
Trayvon Holt rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points and 11 points respectively and they combined for 12 rebounds.
Game Two: Vikings 102 – SUNY ESF 79
Villa ran away with their second game of the weekend, grabbing their first win of the year over the Mighty Oaks. Molson was once again amongst the top scorers, collecting 18 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Viking. Holt and
Victor Fuller both knocked in 12 points of their own, while Thomson and
Dorion Ivey scored in the double digits with 11 points and 10 points respectively.
The Vikings will play their next game on Sunday, Nov. 10, when they host Bryant and Stratton- Albany at 12 p.m. The contest will be the first home game of the season.
