BUFFALO, NY - Lonnie Taylor and
DeJaun Owens each recorded double-doubles to help lead Villa Maria to its tenth-straight win as the Vikings took down College of St. Joseph 107-86 on Saturday afternoon inside the Villa Athletic Center. Taylor finished with a team-high 23 points and 15 rebounds, helping the Vikings shoot 53.5 percent from the floor and out-rebound the Fighting Saints by 23 (53-30).
The Vikings scored 57 points in the first half and held a 22-point edge at the break. Taylor nearly had a double-double at halftime, scoring 17 points and securing nine boards over the opening 20 minutes. He had eight offensive rebounds for the game and was 11-of-17 from the floor. Owens scored 18 points and corralled 10 rebounds while also blocking a game-high five shots.
The Vikings had five players score in double-figures. In addition to Taylor and Owens, sophomore
Gerald Bibbs scored 18 points off the bench, going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Seniors
Dominic Douglas and
Jonathan Pozo scored 18 and 13 points respectively. Douglas went 10-of-12 from the free throw line and Pozo added nine assists and six rebounds.
Junior
Jabari Hibbert continued his streak of efficient games running the show for Villa. He dished out a game-high 10 assists while added six rebounds and three steals.
Charles Isaac Jr. led the way offensively for CSJ. The senior and National Player of the Year candidate scored a game-high 27.
