CAZENOVIA, NY - The Villa Maria College women's soccer team got it's 2018 season underway, but were upended 9-0 by the Cazenovia College Wildcats on Saturday afternoon.
"We got off to a tough start and we weren't able to really recover," Villa head coach
Amanda Janosky said. "We have a lot of new faces and we are still working on coming together as a team. Our team has put a lot of effort into the preseason and we can only learn from our experiences. We will continue to come together and work hard. I'm confident we have the right student-athletes here to do that."
This Vikings' team features eight new players. Cazenovia was able to get off to a quick start, scoring four times in the opening four minutes. Villa did settle in after that, seeming to get the early-season jitters out of the way. Junior
Ashlynn Banks and sophomore
Meghan Strain had effective games for the Vikings.
Villa will be back in action with back-to-back home games next week as they host SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi at noon on Saturday and Sunday.
