BUFFALO, NY - Daniel Thompson provided the spark and the rest of the team filled in the rest as the Villa Maria Vikings took care of the College of St. Joseph Fighting Saints 110-82 in Friday's Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NIAC) quarterfinals. The Vikings entered the tournament as the top-seed and will now face second-seeded University of Maine at Fort Kent for the title on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
In just 22 minutes, Thompson scored a season-high 27 points while shooting 9-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-6 from three. Freshman
Lonnie Taylor scored 25 and corralled a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Vikings scored 60 points in the paint to CSJ's 44 and forced 19 turnovers which led directly to 28 points. Villa shot 58 percent for the game and over 41 percent from three. Junior
DeJaun Owens found his rhythm once again, finishing with 18 points. Junior
Jay Scarbrough scored 14 points and added five assists, five rebounds and four steals while fellow junior
Jonathan Pozo stuffed the stat sheet as well. The Bronx, NY native finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
CSJ was led by Charles Isaac who had 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Mickalous Snowden finished with 15.
