BUFFALO, NY - The number-one ranked Villa Maria Vikings will head into the holiday break full of cheer after closing the 2018 calendar year with a 100-72 victory over Sheridan College on Thursday afternoon in the final game of the Villa Holiday Classic. Junior forward
Trayvon Holt scored a season-high 20 points in just 19 minutes to help Villa (12-1) jump out to an early lead and run away from the Bruins (8-3).
Holt was 8-of-13 from the floor and 2-of-5 from three. He also added four rebounds and two blocks as the Vikings led by as many as 32 in the second half. Five Vikings were in double-figures with Holt leading the way. Seniors
DeJaun Owens,
Jonathan Pozo and
Dominic Douglas were all in double-figures. Owens scored 15 and had two steals. Pozo netted 14 and dished out eight dimes. Douglas also scored 14 on 5-of-8 shooting. Sophomore
Lonnie Taylor was the fifth player to notch double-figure scoring numbers as he posted 13 points and eight rebounds.
Villa scored 60 points and led by 24 at the half thanks in part to 51 percent shooting. Sheridan came into the game averaging nearly 107 points per game and were held 35 points under its average.
WHAT'S NEXT
Villa will now take some time off for the holidays before heading on the road for five straight games, beginning with a trip to Newport News, VA for a second matchup of the season against both The Apprentice School and Stratford University on January 4th and 5th.
