BUFFALO, NY - 36 fourth-quarter points helped the Villa Maria Vikings women's basketball team coast past the SUNY Delhi Broncos 93-56 on Tuesday afternoon inside Floyd L. Maines Arena. It marks the third straight win for Villa, all by at least 34 points.
Senior
Shaquana Owens led the way offensively for the Vikings with a game-high 23 points. She also added 13 rebounds for her third straight double-double. Owens scored 19 of her 23 points in the second half. She dished out six assists and had three steals as well.
Both teams got off to a slow start offensively as Villa led 12-10 after a quarter, and 28-20 after the first half. Villa began to pull away in the third, increasing its lead to 57-38 after three quarters. Villa opened the fourth with four consecutive threes. Owens got it started before junior
Bianca Brown continued. Fellow junior
Leah McQuiller finished the game 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and hit the next two for Villa as they led 69-40 with 7:37 left.
McQuiller scored all 14 of her points in the fourth quarter. After hitting her first two threes, she scored 8 of Villa's next 11 points. Villa led by as many as 40 in the fourth quarter.
Cray, Brown and junior
Chmicka Kennedy each scored 10 points for Villa. Kennedy recorded her first double-double of the season, securing 11 rebounds. Cray and Brown combined for 10 rebounds. Sophomore
Armoni Jordan added 12 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Villa out-rebounded Delhi 61-48 and forced 23 turnovers, leading directly to 17 points. Villa's bench also outscored Delhi's 36-2. The Broncos were paced by Kiera Holland who finished with 20 points.
WHAT'S NEXT
Villa will now take some time off for the Thanksgiving holiday and will play next on Thursday, November 29th at Erie Community College. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m. at the Burt Flickinger Center.
