Villa Coasts to 103-69 Win Over Penn State DuBois

Vikings make it look easy in return home

BUFFALO, NY - They won't play many home games in the coming weeks, but the Villa Maria Vikings made one of few count on Friday night, taking care of previously unbeaten Penn State DuBois 103-69 inside the Villa Athletic Center.  Villa improves to 3-2 with it's second-straight victory while DuBois suffers it's first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1.  It is the second-consecutive win coming against a previously unbeaten opponent for the Vikings.

Sophomore Armoni Jordan provided a spark off the bench for Villa, leading the team in scoring with 19 points and 12 rebounds.  It is her first double-double of the season and first since December 21, 2016.  She was 8-for-17 from the floor and grabbed seven offensive rebounds.

Villa led wire-to-wire and had control for nearly the entire game thanks in part to a 25-8 advantage after the first quarter.  They shot 50 percent from the floor and held DuBois to just 30 percent.  Villa did nearly all of it's damage inside, scoring 72 points in the paint and 32 in the fast break.  Their defensive pressure forced 30 DuBois turnovers which led directly to 56 points.

Senior forward Shaquana Owens finished one assist shy of her second-consecutive triple-double, racking up 17 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.  Junior Chmicka Kennedy once again reeked havoc all over the floor.  In 33 minutes, the stat-stuffer finished with 12 points, nine steals and seven assists.  The nine steals are one shy of a program best 10, set by Owens on January 21, 2017.  Villa had 24 steals as a team which allowed them to push the pace and play aggressive.

Juniors Nina Cray and Tekia Gary were both in double-figures as well.  Cray finished with 12 points, six boards and six steals, while Gary chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.  Junior Bianca Brown had her most efficient game of the season, scoring nine points and missing just one field goal attempt in the process.  She was 4-of-5 from the floor and added four helpers.

All 10 players that saw minutes, scored for Villa as it's bench out-scored that of DuBois, 42-17.  Junior Leah McQuiller chipped in eight points on 3-of-6 shooting, while freshman Taliah Bush finished with six points, three rebounds, a steal and a block in 15 minutes.  Fellow freshman Hannah Day scored a season-high, connecting on both of her field goal attempts.  She finished with five points and an assist.  Junior Renita Johnson scored four points and secured three rebounds.

Melody Young led all scorers with 22 for DuBois.  She also finished with a game-high 15 rebounds and helped DuBois edge Villa on the glass, 53-48.
