BUFFALO, NY - Five players scored in double-figures and junior forward
Shaquana Owens recorded her sixth triple-double of the season as the Villa Maria Vikings used a superb third quarter to defeat the College of St. Joseph Fighting Saints 82-71 on Saturday afternoon inside the Villa Athletic Center.
Villa (15-3, 3-1 NIAC) - which came into the game ranked third in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II National Coaches Poll - out-scored the Fighting Saints 27-16 in the third quarter to run away late. Â They led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter to improve to 3-1 in Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NIAC) play.
Sophomore
Bianca Brown led Villa with 20 points and was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Â Fellow sophomore
Nina Cray scored 17 and pulled down 14 rebounds while Owens, and senior
Clarissa Walker each scored 16. Â Owens added 13 rebounds, 10 assists, three blocks and two steals, while Walker secured a team-high 15 rebounds.
CSJ (6-7) entered the game ranked 11th in the latest USCAA Division I poll and are currently transitioning to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) a scholarship-based organization.  They got 25 points and 15 boards from Dymond Collins along with 17 points from Aliesha Thomas.
Villa has now won eight in a row and will next play on Tuesday when they travel to Du Bois, Pennsylvania for a tilt with #11 Penn State Du Bois at 5 p.m.
