Big Second-Half Lifts Villa to Convincing 73-52 Conference Win over Fisher

Cray finishes with 23 rebounds for Villa

BOSTON, MA - After seeing an early 16-point lead disappear, the Villa Maria Vikings recovered and put on a clinic on both ends of the floor in the second half, taking down Fisher College 73-52 on Friday evening inside Fectau-Leary Gymnasium.  The win is Villa's fifth in a row and pushes it's overall record to 12-3 and 2-1 Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NIAC) play.

Villa - which came into the game ranked fifth in the latest United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Coaches Poll - jumped out to an early 12-0 lead and increased the margin to 19-3 moments later.  But Fisher responded with a 22-0 run and as quick as Villa jumped ahead, they were behind by six even quicker.  Villa responded with the next seven points but trailed 27-26 at the break.

Out of the break, Villa hit two consecutive threes as junior Shaquana Owens and senior Dominique Davis each put home threes.  Senior Clarissa Walker added two straight bucket moments to follow that as Villa took a nine-point lead.  Villa extended that lead to 10 at the end of three quarters and put it's foot on the gas pedal over the final 10 minutes.

Owens finished with her fourth triple-double of the season, scoring 18 points, securing 12 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists.  She also finished with two blocks and two steals.  Villa had three other players score in double-figures as sophomore Leah McQuiller scored a career-high 16 off the bench, hitting four triples.  Sophomore Nina Cray finished with 11 points and 23 rebounds, marking the third time this season she has corralled at least 20 rebounds.  It matched her season-high.

Sophomore Bianca Brown chipped in 12 points.  Villa held Fisher to just 23.1 percent shooting and the Vikings themselves shot 55 percent in the second half.

The Vikings finish out their road trip with a game against College of St. Joseph (VT) at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  The game will be played at Southern Vermont College after the Fighting Saints' gym suffered recent damage.
