JAMESTOWN, NY - All five players that saw game action set career-best marks, with four program-best numbers being eclipsed as the Villa Maria Vikings women's basketball team took down Pitt-Titusville, 101-66 in the first round of the Jamestown Community College Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Junior forward
Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) scored a school-record 40 points to lead Villa offensively but that was just the start of the record-setting day. Â Sophomore guard
Bianca Brown (Niagars Falls, NY/Jamestown Community College) netted a career-high 33 points with seven made threes.
Villa out-rebounded the Panthers 76-57 thanks in part to a program-best 23 rebounds from sophomore
Nina Cray (Wheatland, IA/Calamus-Wheatland). Â She also scored a career high 19 points in addition to a program-record nine blocks. Â Senior guard
Dominique Davis (Buffalo, NY/Genesee Community College) was one point and two rebounds away from a triple-double as she scored nine points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a remarkable 16 assists, another program-best. Â Sophomore
Ashlynn Banks (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) - who was making her first start of the season and second career-start - corralled a career-high 12 rebounds with nine coming off the offensive glass.
Villa led 7-5 early in the first quarter before going on a 15-2 run to take a 22-7 lead with 2:29 left in the quarter. Â Villa kept the momentum going, scoring 14 of the first 15 points of the second quarter. Â They led by 29 in the second quarter and cruised for the remainder of the game.
