Offensive Explosion Results in 101-66 Vikings Victory

Multiple program-best and career-best marks set in win

JAMESTOWN, NY - All five players that saw game action set career-best marks, with four program-best numbers being eclipsed as the Villa Maria Vikings women's basketball team took down Pitt-Titusville, 101-66 in the first round of the Jamestown Community College Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Junior forward Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) scored a school-record 40 points to lead Villa offensively but that was just the start of the record-setting day.  Sophomore guard Bianca Brown (Niagars Falls, NY/Jamestown Community College) netted a career-high 33 points with seven made threes.

Villa out-rebounded the Panthers 76-57 thanks in part to a program-best 23 rebounds from sophomore Nina Cray (Wheatland, IA/Calamus-Wheatland).  She also scored a career high 19 points in addition to a program-record nine blocks.  Senior guard Dominique Davis (Buffalo, NY/Genesee Community College) was one point and two rebounds away from a triple-double as she scored nine points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a remarkable 16 assists, another program-best.  Sophomore Ashlynn Banks (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) - who was making her first start of the season and second career-start - corralled a career-high 12 rebounds with nine coming off the offensive glass.

Villa led 7-5 early in the first quarter before going on a 15-2 run to take a 22-7 lead with 2:29 left in the quarter.  Villa kept the momentum going, scoring 14 of the first 15 points of the second quarter.  They led by 29 in the second quarter and cruised for the remainder of the game.
