Brown Scores 30, Owens Posts Triple-Double in Win over Genesee

Brown hits five triples in 76-62 victory

BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore guard Bianca Brown (Niagara Falls, NY/Jamestown Community College) scored 30 points and junior forward Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) posted a triple-double as the #3 Villa Maria Vikings took down Genesee Community College 76-62 on Saturday afternoon inside the Villa Athletic Center.

Brown made a game-high five triples and was 12-of-19 from the field en route to one shy of her season/career high.  While Owens uncharacteristically struggled from the field, she scored 21 points and finished with 14 assists and 11 rebounds to go along with five steals and two blocks.

The Vikings fell behind early but rallied to take a 20-16 lead after the first quarter thanks to a 27-foot three point buzzer beater from Brown.  They edged out the second quarter as well, 19-17, again thanks to another triple at the buzzer from Brown, this time from 30 feet. Villa was able to pull away in the third quarter, winning the quarter 25-16 and taking a 64-49 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The Vikings made 10 triples in the game as Owens and senior Dominique Davis (Buffalo, NY/Genesee Community College) each put home two and sophomore Leah McQuiller (Lackawanna, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) connected on one.  McQuiller was the third Viking in double-figures, scoring 11.  Davis finished with eight to go along with four boards, three assists and a steal.
