Vikings Fall to Delhi Despite 27 Saves from Douglas

Vikings compete hard, ultimately fall to Broncos

DEPEW, NY – The Villa Maria College men's soccer team battled and hung tough with undefeated USCAA foe SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell to the Broncos 7-0 at Rehm Road Park in the team and program's second game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dominic Douglas (Bainbridge, GA/Bainbridge) was sensational for the Vikings once again, making 27 saves and keeping Villa alive and fighting throughout.

Villa opened the game strong, hanging within a 1-0 score for the opening 30 minutes before the Broncos' experience took over.

"I thought we played a great first 30 minutes and it was a vast improvement upon our last game," Villa head coach Mike Ertel said.  "We got a little bit tired and their experience took over but we hung tough and Dom (Dominic Douglas) was great for us once again."

Villa recorded four shots on net. Freshman Robertson David (Buffalo, NY/McKinley) and sophomore Doug Martin (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) each recorded a shot while Douglas from the other end of the field, got two long shots to hit the keeper.

Villa is back in action next Saturday, September 17th when they host Bryant & Stratton College at 4 p.m. at Rehm Road Park.
