Jayvonna Kincannon (Buffalo, NY/Erie Community) and sophomore forward
Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) combined to score 50 points as the shorthanded Villa Maria College Lady Vikings picked up a big win over Alfred State College in the opening game of the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Kincannon scored a season-high 30 points and was 12-of-18 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Owens chipped in 20 points and added eight rebounds and five steals. Junior
Dominique Davis (Buffalo, NY/Genesee) added eight points and six assists.
The Lady Vikings led by 16 after three quarters but found themselves in a tight contest late in the fourth. They found their lead trimmed to just three with 1:30 left when Kincannon scored her 29th and 30th points on a layup in the paint to get it back to a two-possession game. Nina Cray (Wheatland, IA/Calamus-Wheatland) clinched the game with a free throw, one of her five points. She also led Villa with 10 rebounds.
