BUFFALO, NY - In the second game of the Niagara National Insurance Tournament hosted by Erie Community College, The Villa Maria College Lady Vikings lost a heartbreaker in the final minutes, 75-69 to Columbus State Community College on Sunday afternoon at the Burt Flickinger Center.
Villa (0-4), which led by five with 5:31 left, surrendered an 11-0 run to close the game and did not score for the remainder of the game. Freshman
Armoni Jordan (Lockport, NY/South Park) converted a layup before fellow freshman
Leah McQuiller (Lackawanna, NY/Mount Mercy) hit a baseline jumper to put the Vikings ahead five, but the Lady Vikings' offense went cold as they could not find the bottom of the net again. They missed their final eight shots and two free throws.
Sophomore
Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry), who was named to the All-Tournament Team, scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds and coming up with eight steals. She averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5 steals for the tournament.
Jordan finished with 20 points and also grabbed eight rebounds off the bench. Senior
Jayvonna Kincannon (Buffalo, NY/Erie Community) also hit the double-figure mark, scoring 10 points and dishing out five assists.
The Lady Vikings are back in action on Tuesday when they travel across the border to Canada to take on Sheridan College at 6 p.m.
