BATAVIA, NY - The Villa Maria Lady Vikings overcame a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Genesee Community College 78-72 on Wednesday evening. Led by junior guard
Jayvonna Kincannon (Buffalo, NY/Erie Community) who scored a game-high 21 points, Villa finished the game on a 22-7 run to improve to 9-2 on the season.
Trailing 65-56 with 8:31 left, Kincannon scored the next six points for Villa. Freshman
Shaquana Owens (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry) hit a jumper to cut the deficit to five with 6:50 left before fellow freshman
Naomi Walker (Buffalo, NY/McKinley) scored to make it a three-point game. Kincannon then cut it to one with a layup on the next possession before Owens came up with a steal and fastbreak finish to grab a one-point lead with 4:12 left. That was the game's final lead change.
Owens finished with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals while Walker had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Senior guard
Magan Campbell (Buffalo, NY/Erie Community) recorded her second double-double of the season with a season best 13 assists to go along with 18 points. She also added six steals.
Villa will play one more game on the road before returning home. The Lady Vikings travel to take on the University of Pittsburgh-Titusville at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening.
