BUFFALO, NY - Freshman
Donte Campbell (Buffalo, NY/Huch Tech) led Villa Maria with 18 points and three Vikings were in double figures, but the Sheridan College Bruins edged out the Vikings 82-70 on Monday afternoon at the Villa Athletic Center.
Brian Owusu led Sheridan (16-4, 7-2 OCAA) with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists as the Bruins out-rebounded the Vikings 57-33. Â Villa (5-12, 3-2) shot 45.1 percent from the floor compared to just 32.5 percent for the Bruins, but Sheridan's edge on the glass, and nine made threes was the difference.
Sheridan led 39-31 at the break and stretched the lead to 14 early, but Villa chipped away and were within one with 9:17 left before Navdeep Deol buried a triple to hault the momentum. Â Villa was within one a minute later, but this time it was Owusu who buried a jumper. Â
Villa was able to tie the game with 5:07 left after junior
Kirby Driscoll (Angola, NY/Lakeshore) connected in the lane. Â After Sheridan scored on it's next possession, Campbell hit two free throws to tie the game again at 68. Â From there, Sheridan closed the game on a 14-2 run.
Freshman
Darius Huggins (Buffalo, NY/Lackawanna) finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore
Justin Stokes had 13 points, 6 assists and 3 blocks.
Villa is off until December 28 when they begin a four game road trip against the College of St. Joseph's (VT) who is ranked second in the latest USCAA Coaches Poll.
