Houghton Slows Down Villa

Sloppy play dooms Vikings on the road

BUFFALO, NY - Turnovers doomed the Villa Vikings on Tuesday as they couldn't string two wins together, falling 94-70 to Houghton College on Tuesday at the Nielsen Center.

The Vikings turned it over 24 times and couldn't recover as the game progressed.  Houghton - members of the Empire 8 NCAA Division III Conference - shot 49.4 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from beyond the arc en route to their third straight victory.

Villa held an early 8-4 lead and kept that four-point edge into the middle stages of the first half, leading 22-18 with 10:18 left in the first half.  From there, a 13-1 run created seperation for the Highlanders and they never looked back, leading by as many as 30 in the second half.

Junior Andre Diggs (Bronx, NY/Erie Community) led Villa with 13 points off the bench, while freshman Darius Huggins (Buffalo, NY/Lackawanna) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds.  Both Jayson Moore (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) and Justin Stokes (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) were also in double-figures, scoring 11 and 12 points respectively.

Houghton had four players in double-figures as well and were led by Brandon Camacho with 21 points.  The Highlanders made 11 triples and improved to 3-1 on the season.

Villa falls to 4-7 on the season and returns home for a second matchup with Point Park on December 1 at 7:30 p.m.
