PITTSBURGH, PA - The Villa Vikings jumped out to an early lead but a 30-8 run by Point Park University was too much to overcome as the Pioneers took down Villa 95-71 on Tuesday evening. In the process, Point Park head coach Bog Rager became the all-time wins leader at a four-year school in the city of Pittsburgh. He now has 368 victories.
Villa led early by seven points as junior guard
Andre Diggs (Bronx, NY/Erie Community) connected on two three point attempts early. Point Park the ripped off the 30-8 run which forced Villa to chase the rest of the game.
Both
Justin Stokes (Buffalo, NY/Middle Early College) and
Darius Huggins (Buffalo, NY/Lackawanna) picked up their second fouls in the first half which allowed Point Park to start the run.
The Pioneers lead 45-35 at halftime and Villa was able to get it with eight, 55-47 with 13:20 after a
Donte Campbell (Buffalo, NY/Huch Tech) triple but that's the closest Villa could get. Huggins led the Vikings in scoring with 17 points and 10 rebounds, good for his third double-double of the season. Campbell had 16 off the bench while Diggs finished with 11.
Villa's bench outscored that of Point Park's 47-33. The Vikings are now 3-4 and play next in the Buffalo State Coles Classic against the Bengals at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
