Serena Sordetto

Serena Sordetto is entering her second season as head coach of the Villa Vikings women’s basketball program. In her first year at the helm, she led the Vikings to their first two conference wins since 2023. Her coaching philosophy highlights the importance of balancing academics and athletics, a value that was evident as two members of the 2024–25 team earned Division I Academic All-American honors.

Sordetto graduated in May 2025 with a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs and was the recipient of the Michael J. Small Award for Leadership & Service. Alongside coaching, she is the Student Life Coordinator at Villa Maria College where she supports student development and engagement across campus.

Before becoming head coach, Sordetto gained experience as the Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach at Buffalo State University and as the head coach for the Tonawanda Middle School girls’ modified basketball team.

A proud SUNY Brockport alum, Sordetto competed on the women’s basketball team for three seasons, graduating in 2022 with a degree in Sport Management and Coaching. She was named the program’s Most Improved Player in her first season. After suffering a career-ending injury in 2022, she turned her passion for the game toward coaching.

Originally from Kenmore, NY, Sordetto is a graduate of Kenmore East High School, where she left a lasting legacy as the fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,224 career points. A three-sport athlete, she was a three-time First Team All Niagara League selection in basketball, the 2018 Niagara Frontier Player of the Year, and the school’s Female Athlete of the Year. She also excelled in volleyball, earning All-League honors through 2016-2018 and served as team captain in both basketball and volleyball.
