Flag Football Win Streak Snapped by Undefeated Redhawks

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's flag football team's eight-game win streak was snapped, 26-19, by Roberts Wesleyan University in a non-conference game on Friday, April 24, after the undefeated Redhawks scored the only points of the final quarter to break open a 20-19 game at Roberts Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Redhawks opened the scoring with a passing touchdown for a first-quarter 6-0 lead.
  • The Vikings took a 7-6 second-quarter lead with a Keiliany Diaz reception from Alannah Bushorr.
  • Roberts Wesleyan took a 13-7 lead into halftime after another throwing score.
  • Kiara Mercado got her first of two scores on a reception from Brianna Shalinsky to tie the game at 13-13 in the third quarter.
  • The Redhawks got their third passing touchdown to go ahead 20-13 in the third.
  • Mercado rounded out the third-quarter scoring with a rushing TD to get the Vikings within a point at 20-19.
  • Roberts Wesleyan closed out the game's scoring at 26-19 with a fourth-quarter rushing score.
  • The Viking defense finished with six breakups, two sacks, one tackle-for-loss, and one interception.
  • The Vikings ended the Redhawks' seven-straight games without giving up a score and gave Roberts Wesleyan its first deficit during a game this season.
