BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's basketball team were at home on Monday as they hosted Bryant and Stratton Buffalo for the final game before the winter break. The Vikings fought hard to stay in the game despite a tough shooting night, but in the end they fell by a final score of 60-52. The Bobcats now hold a record of 9-4, while the Vikings fall to 9-7. 
 
The first quarter was an offensive struggle for both sides as the scored read 9-3 after ten minutes, and the Vikings did not convert a field, getting all of their points at the free-throw line. The offense began to pick up in the second frame with Danyea Barclay and Leah McQuiller making layups to cut the deficit to four points. The three-point shot was not falling for Villa, but they continued to battle in the paint and at the free-throw line to keep the game within single digits. The Bobcats went on a run in the final minutes of the half and into the break, the Vikings trailed 30-16. 
 
The two teams traded baskets to open the second half, and the Bobcats eventually got their lead to as many as 15 points at the 1:58 mark. Villa fought back in those final minutes, with baskets by Chmicka Kennedy and Barclay cutting the disadvantage to 10 points and then a three-point play by Barclay in the final second, put the score at 42-35 going into the final quarter. Unfortunately, the Vikings were unable to maintain the intensity and fell by a final score of 60-52. 
 
Barclay was the leading scorer with 22 points, shooting 10-for-17 from the field. She also secured the double-double with 11 rebounds and swatted away five balls.
