Box Score 2 HAMILTON, OH – The Villa Maria College women's basketball team finished off their trip to Ohio on Sunday with a game against Miami University- Hamilton, after playing University of Cincinnati-Clermont the previous night. Unfortunately, neither game went the way the Vikings wanted, dropping back-to-back games. On Saturday against the Cougars, Villa fell 74-59 and then on Sunday, the game-winner did not fall and the Vikings lost 70-69.
On Saturday, Villa was competitive in the first quarter, trailing by just three points, but the offense began to stumble scoring just 12 points in the second frame and at half-time, the Vikings were down 37-27. Throughout the entire second-half, the Vikings were able to pull within single digits, but they could not pull it all together and fell by a final score of 74-59. Barclay finished the day with 23 points and seven rebounds, Falanga completed the game with 12 points and three rebounds.
On Sunday, it was a close game against the Harriers throughout the entire battle. Villa trailed by three in the initial ten minutes and then were down 31-29 at halftime. Coming out of the break, they were able to make a run and grab a 45-40 lead with five minutes to plat in the third quarter. Miami Hamilton was not going away however, and going into the final frame, the Vikings held a slim two point lead. The two units were trading leads in the final moments of the game, including a Harrier free-throw that put them head 70-69 with 12 seconds to play. The Vikings were unable to hit the final shot of the game and dropped their second game in a row.
The womens basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, when they are back in Ohio for a battle against Lakeland Community College.
