Vikings Kick-Off December Against D’Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's basketball team were on the road on Wednesday, as they took on D'Youville College. Despite a strong start to the game, the Vikings fell to the Saints by a final score of 65-43. The loss drops Villa to 5-4 on the year, while D'Youville move to 4-1 on the year.
 
The Vikings got off to a scorching start, going ahead 13-0 in the opening four minutes. Danyea Barclay scored the first two buckets with jump shots and then Maria Falgana knocked down a pair of free-throws and a layup to extend the lead to 8-0. Falgana then hit a three after a Barclay layup to complete the 13-0 run. The Vikings went ahead by as many as 14 points, but the Saints came back before the quarter ended to shrink the score to 17-8.
 
The Saints turned the table in the second quarter, limiting the Vikings to six points. As the two team went into the break for halftime, Villa trailed 26-23. Jordon Wright got involved in the scoring in the third quarter knocking down a pair of threes. Unfortunately, the team couldn't ride the momentum as they were outscored 25-14 in the third quarter and went into the final frame behind 51-37. The cold offense continued in the final frame, as the team shot 2-for-14 from the field and lost by a final score of 65-43.
 
Barclay led the way with 16 points and grabbed six blocks and swatting away seven shots. Falgana finished the day with 11 points and also collected five rebounds.
 
Up next for the Vikings is a home matchup on Thursday, December 2 as they host Bryant and Stratton Albany at 4 p.m. at the Villa Athletic Center.
