BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Villa Maria College women's basketball team is set to compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball National Championship. Heading into the tournament, the Vikings are slated as a no. 3 seed after achieving a record of 18-5. The first games of the competition will take place on Sunday, March 8 and the Championship Game is slated for Wednesday, March 11.
Villa will play their first game of the tournament on Monday, March 9 as they will battle the University of Maine at Machias. The game is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start in the Penn State-Fayette Main Arena.
The Vikings have had a strong year as a unit, ranking in the top of the USCAA in multiple statistical categories. Villa averages 75.7 point per game, which ranks no. 6 in Division II. In addition, the team sits at no. 5 in both field goal percentage at 40.7 percent and assists per game with 17.0. The team has been lights out this year from behind the arc as their three-point shooting percentage is ranked no. 1 at 33.7 percent. The Vikings also sit in the top-15 in rebounds per game with 44.2 and steals per game with 11.7.
The Clippers are a no. 6 seed and hold a record of 19-8. The team have had a strong year offensively as well, sitting at no. 4 in points with an average of 76.7 points per game. They have been efficient scoring with a field goal percentage of 44.8 percent and three-point percentage with 30.6. Those numbers sit at no. 1 and 6 respectively. The Clippers also ranked no. 3 in the USCAA in assists per game with an average of 18.0.
